Mathematics
About Math...
Students participate in enrichment and/or acceleration in mathematics based on
educational need. We strive to engage students in a Balanced Math Program to
develop and promote a deep understanding of math concepts and processes as well
as communication. A balanced math program includes the following steps (though
not in order of priority): computational skills, problem solving, conceptual
understanding, mastery of math facts, and common formative assessment.
Over the
Summer...
Students should take advantage of
opportunities to notice patterns in the world around them and to play games
involving math and logic skills. Some good games might include Dominoes, Racko,
SET, 24, Uno, Sudoku, and/or Chess. If your child enjoys logic, he or she might
want to try some logic puzzles. I especially like Logic Links and
Perplexors, available from MindWare (http://www.mindwareonline.com).
