Data and GraphingYou have been hired by the US government to compare and contrast population diversity and land use among states. In order to do these, you will need to graph and describe central tendencies. 1. Before you begin, go to Study Island and brush up on your knowledge about mean, median, mode, and range. 2. Then, test your knowledge about statistics. After you have reviewed these ways to analyze data, you are ready to begin! For this project, you will need to answer the following questions: 1. How diverse is our country? Are there differences between states? Do you notice any trends among groups of states? 2. How is land allocated to states across the nation? Are some states more crowded than others? Do you notice any trends among groups of states? Why do you think the crowded areas are crowded? The US Census Bureau collects a wealth of information about areas of our country. Go to the US Census Bureau website and browse the information about the state that you live in. In your notebook, do some planning:Think about the two questions that you have been hired to answer. What information on the US Census website would help you to answer them? Plan out your research. Will you collect information from all of the states or just a few? What information will you collect? Make a table to help you, either in your notebook or by using a computer spreadsheet. Now, go back to the website and start collecting the information that you will need in order to make your graphs and answer the "big questions" that you have been charged with. Check back here soon for more details....
