Magnetic Levitation Magnetic Levitation refers to a concept that has tremendous implications for transportation in the future. By using magnets trains can now "float" on a guide system at speeds over 300 miles per hour! Test trains can achieve speeds that rival commercial jetliners. Systems in Japan, Germany and China are leading the push for this pollution free form of transportation which has huge potential.
Designers must first design a chassis that will use magnetic levitation smoothly. Factors such as mass and friction need to be considered before the body is added.
The design process allows students the chance to investigate many variables which may impact the speed of their vehicle.
Vehicles created with magnetic levitation are tested by the designers.
